All IEC publications available soon in electronic format
The IEC Web
Store will celebrate its first anniversary on 1 February 2000
and will shortly be able to offer the whole range of its publications,
from standards to technical specifications and reports, in electronic
format. This represents a new step in what has already proved to
be a major e-commerce success story for the International Electrotechnical
Commission.
This new feature means that customers will be able
to obtain any of the 4 500 IEC publications via the Web Store and
have it on their desks within minutes of ordering them.
In the past twelve months, about 1 400 publications,
all issued after September 1996, have been made available for download
in PDF format from the IEC Web Store. Hardcopies of older IEC publications
have also been available for purchase online.
In its first year, the IEC Web Store has also included
a good selection of the IECs best-selling publications translated
into Spanish, thus acknowledging the importance on the market of
the Spanish and Latin American standardization community.
The IEC has further plans for the enhancement of
the service, all of which will be unveiled later this year. They
include a corporate account facility and a networking option within
companies for those who want an electronic library of IEC publications.
From day one, the Web Store has responded to market
need, bringing in a whole new group of customers to the Commission.
Regular customers have also switched from traditional ordering channels
to the new electronic facility.
