Sixth edition of CISPR 15 now available
The sixth edition of CISPR 15, on the limits and
methods of measurement of radio disturbance characteristics of electrical
lighting and similar equipment has recently been published by the
International Electrotechnical Commission.
M.C. Vrolijk (Philips Bedrijven BV), who is Assistant
Secretary of Subcommittee
F (Interference relating to household appliances, tools, lighting
equipment and similar apparatus) of CISPR
(International Special committee on radio interference), explains
that "although not revolutionary, the progress in the technology
of lighting makes it necessary to modify the standard for unwanted
radio emissions continuously. This sixth edition adds requirements
for independent starters and ignitors for fluorescent and other
discharge lamps. Moreover, requirements for lighting equipment operating
in one of the ISM designated frequency bands (for Industrial, Scientific
and Medical radio frequency equipment) are deleted from CISPR 15.
CISPR 15 is being referred to in radio disturbance legislation in
many countries. The standard was also adopted in CENELEC
as an update of the European Norm EN 55015, which will be published
in the OJEC with reference to the EMC Directive."
This standard applies to the emission (radiated
and conducted) of radiofrequency disturbances from all lighting
equipment with a primary function of generating and/or distributing
light intended for illumination purposes, and intended either for
connection to the low voltage electricity supply or for battery
operation; the lighting part of multi-function equipment where one
of the primary functions of this is illumination; independent auxiliaries
exclusively for use with lighting equipment; UV and IR radiation
equipment; neon advertising signs; street/flood lighting intended
for outdoor use; and transport lighting (installed in buses and
trains).
Excluded from the scope of this standard are lighting
equipment operating in the ISM frequency bands (as defined in Resolution
63 (1979) of the ITU Radio Regulation); lighting equipment for aircraft
and airports; apparatus for which the electromagnetic compatibility
requirements in the radio-frequency range are explicitly formulated
in other IEC or CISPR standards.
