Karsten Aleksander Moholt of Karsten Moholt AS, Bergen, Norway
It is with deep regret that the IEC announces the probable death of Karsten Aleksander Moholt, on 1 June 2009 at the age of 35.
Karsten Aleksander Moholt and his father, Karsten Moholt, 58, were aboard Air France flight 447, which fell into the Atlantic Ocean between Rio de Janeiro and Paris, with the loss of all passengers and crew. Father and son were returning to their native Norway.
Moholt's electro-mechanical workshop, based in Bergen, Norway, was the subject of an article in the May 2008 e-tech about Conformity Assessment and IECEx Service Certification. IECEx is the IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres.
The family company, Karsten Moholt AS, specializes in providing electrical and mechanical services to the offshore petroleum industry. It became the first Norwegian repair and overhaul workshop to be granted IECEx certification in the Certified Service Facility Programme for Organizations providing Repair and Overhaul Service of Ex Equipment, in accordance with International Standard IEC 60079-19, Explosive atmospheres - Part 19: Equipment repair, overhaul and reclamation.
"Karsten Moholt and his father were strong supporters of International Standardization, the IEC and particularly the IECEx Conformity Assessment System", said IEC General Secretary and CEO, Ronnie Amit. "Sharing in their loss, the entire IEC community extends their sincerest sympathies to the family."
